P.a.w.s. Needs Help With Chaps Surgery !

Chap has a broken leg from an old injury, his leg was trying to heal its self. But his bones weren't lined up, so it was impossible for his body to heal. His only option for recovery was surgery. P.a.w.s. has had several expenses that are depleting our  reserves and we could use your help with Chaps surgery and other medical expenses.
Help from the public is the only way P.a.w.s. can afford to continue with the care of all the animals in our care, some make it through with just vaccinations and a spay or neuter, while others unfortunately have heartworms or major injuries that are repairable but very costly.
Should they have to die because they have been abandoned or abused?

Sympathy sees and says," I'm sorry."
Compassion sees and says, "I'll help."
Please be Compassionate and Make a Difference.

Most of the dogs that have come in since Katrina are heartworm positive and will need to get heartworm treatment. They also need to be spayed or neutered if you would like to help the Katrina dogs and all the new ones, we are now using PayPal

                             Diana7/1/06:
Diana was trapped at the beginning of March and gave birth after 2 days at P.A.W.S.
P.A.W.S. felt bad for her because even though
she was pregnant, you could see every bone in her body. She was thin and starving. Diana had 4 kittens as small as mice. .
She’s had a rough life and deserves better. She has been spayed and the vet said she is about 5 years old. The vet also said someone had cut off the tops of both of her ears (not a vet), and she only has 3 teeth in her entire mouth! Diana can't make it back on the streets, but does need someone willing to work with her and be very patient, and someone who understands that she may never be a lap cat. Please open your hearts for Diana. Show her life doesn't have to be so rough!
I saw Diana play for the first time today(1/4/07) A wonderful cat person has offered to donate $50 to anyone willing to give Diana her forever home.
Sympathy sees and says, "I'm sorry." Compassion sees and says," I'll help" Please be compassionate and make a difference.

P.A.W.S. (Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society)has moved to a larger facility Feb. 2004.This is great for our dogs, they now have room to go out and run and play.

Our Address:
9596 Highway 23 South
Belle Chasse, La. 70037
Phone: (504) 392-1601

Our adoption center hours have changed, new hours are: Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00. If you see an animal on the internet that you would like to meet, we can make arrangements for you to visit our center.

Who We Are

P.A.W.S. (Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society) is a non-profit organization dedicated to spaying and neutering of animals in order to control the population of unwanted animals, thus reducing the need for euthanasia. Our parish government operates a "holding facility", where animals picked up by the Animal Control workers are housed for seven days. Parish Animal Control and P.A.W.S. have been working together to have a better working relationship to help care for the unwanted animals in our Parish .
Animal Control and P.A.W.S.volunteers are committed to working together to improve animal cruelty, we have a new program established to control animal abuse.

Since 1998, P.A.W.S. volunteers have made weekly visits to the holding facility to remove as many potentially adoptable animals as we can. We're limited by the lack of space and suitable foster homes. Each animal rescued by P.A.W.S. is taken directly to a veterinarian to be health-checked, sterilized, and given necessary medical treatment. P.A.W.S. funds all health-care expenses. Without our volunteers, all of the animals pictured on our site would not find loving homes.

" P.A.W.S." ADOPTION CENTER is just the first step in our long-term work in Plaquemines Parish. Our goal is to obtain funding to build a modern, efficient adoption center equipped with covered dog runs, cat "condos", veterinary examination area, and a people-friendly area where prospective pet owners can interact with adoptable pets.

We will continue to host adoption Saturdays at the Harvey PetsMart on Manhattan Boulevard. Right now, we maintain the cat condos in the store.

Volunteering and Donations

We need more helping hands to keep P.A.W.S. running. We need foster homes for cats, dogs, kittens and puppies. We urgently need assistance from people who are experienced in grant-writing and fund-raising so that we can continue to expand our facility. We're always ready to take donations for dog food,"we are now using Hills Science Diet "for all our dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Kitty litter, vet medicines, old, clean towels and blankets as well as leashes and collars.

Please contact us for more information on how your compassion can aid needy animals by calling us at (504) 392-1601 or by sending email to paws2003@bellsouth.net
